Two Parishes Summer Fun Day – We are floating a proposed date for the Two Parishes Fun Day which is Sunday, 30th June and would appreciate comments on the suitability of this date. It was decided after feedback from some of you that we keep this event just for our Two Parishes and we will not join with any other Churches as was suggested.

Unfortunately due to the very wet weather last year this event had to be cancelled. Let’s hope that this year the weather is in our favour.

Pope Francis

“Humble Francis makes immediate impression”.

This was one of the headlines in the Catholic Universe this week.

It would seem that after only a week and a half in office a great many people have been impressed by our new Pope Francis.  Firstly was his choice of name, after St. Francis of Assisi who represents humility and poverty and he was a Saint who received a message from God to “rebuild my Church, which you can see has fallen into ruin”.  Perhaps many of us might agree that in light of the recent scandals within the Catholic Church that perhaps this is a good thing. Many have felt Pope Francis to be a man of great humility and a man who has expressed a great desire to help the poor in our world.  “I am here to Serve” was his message.

Pope Francis also acknowledged Pope Benedict XVI in his own words, “With great affection and profound gratitude, my thought goes also to my venerable predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, who during these years of his pontificate has enriched and invigorated the Church with his teachings, his kindness, his leadership, his faith, his humility and his meekness.  They will remain a spiritual heritage for every one!  We feel that Benedict XVI has lit a flame in the depths of our hearts:  it will continue to blaze because it will be fuelled by his prayer, which will support the Church on her spiritual and missionary journey”.

It has been very refreshing to see our Pope take the time and risking his own safety by insisting on going out amongst the crowds touching them and blessing them.

Pope Francis pledged to protect the Catholic Church, the dignity of each person and the beauty of creation, just as St. Joseph protected Mary and Jesus.

“To protect creation, to protect, every man and every woman, to look upon them with tenderness and love is to open up a horizon of hope”

We pray that our Lord will Bless our new Pope, will give him the strength and the health to fulfil his greatest desire and that is to serve our God and his Holy Catholic Church.  (written by the Editor)

Father David’s Message for Easter

The Baptismal Promises at Easter

The restating of our Baptismal Promises at Easter gives us an opportunity to remind ourselves of the important values in our life and to refresh our faith and our commitment to God each year.  At the Easter Vigil and on Easter Sunday this very moving ceremony takes place after the Gospel.  I hope that these short reference notes to the promises will help make the restating of Baptismal Promises extra special for you this year.

The Deacon calls for a moment of silent prayer before the Baptismal Promises.

Priest: Do you renounce sin so as to live in the freedom of the Children of God?
(Do I reject personal greed and ambition that tempts me to put myself before God?)
ALL:  I DO.

Priest:  Do you renounce the lure of evil, so that sin may have no mastery over you?
(Do I reject the view that all that matters in life is to be successful, wealthy and popular?)
ALL:  I DO

Priest:  Do you renounce Satan, the author and prince of sin?
(Do I reject the source and origin of all that leads me to forget the true values of my relationship with God and my fellow human beings?)
ALL:  I DO

Priest:  Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth?
(Do believe that God has given me life, that he loves me and that my true happiness is to be found in my relationship with God?)
ALL:  I DO

Priest:  Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death and was buried, rose again from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father?  (Do I believe that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ affects me personally 2000 years later and that my life can be transformed through my relationship with Christ?)
ALL:  I DO.

Priest:  Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?  (Do I believe that God’s Spirit guides and strengthen me?  Do I believe that we as the Church, despite our faults and failings, are the family of God on earth and that whatever mistakes we may make personally God offers us forgiveness if we truly are sorry.  Do I believe that in some way – not yet completely known to us God our Father will call us to be with Him when our life here on earth end?)
ALL:  I DO.

May our Faith be renewed and strengthened for another year as we receive this special Blessing at Easter.

Father David and Deacon John wish you every Blessing and Happiness for Easter.
