Information

No Children’s Liturgy during the School Holidays at Holy Angels and Holy Family:

Parents are still very welcome to use the Time Out facilities for part of the Mass (especially the Sermon which may sometimes be a little too adult focussed for some children) at both Churches (the Children’s Chapel at Holy Family and St. Mary’s Room at Holy Angels) where we will have some pictures of parts of the Mass for children to colour in and there will be close circuit T.V. to the Church for the Adults.

Despite the popularity of Television and the computer, some people still enjoy the radio.  Classic FM can bring some stunning music right into our homes and the commentaries can also bring us so much extra knowledge of the music we love.

RADIO VATICANA is available to everyone in the U.K. and has some thoughtful and engaging programmes and discussions in over 40 different languages.  To see what is available go to www.radiovaticana.va

If you are going on holiday and would like to know the times of the Masses at the nearest church, most churches now have a web site and those that don’t  their details can be obtained from the local Diocesan web site.

If you don’t have a computer or have any difficulties, Rita, in our Parish Office will always see if she can help you.

Rose Walk –I have been very encouraged by the response to the appeal for help in restoring the Rose Walk.  A number of people have expressed interest and offered help.  The points made by all who have expressed an interest are that the plans for the future should focus on making the church garden easier to maintain and that the memorials should be preserved.

Several options have been suggested:

A:  If we have sufficient long term volunteers to restore the Rose Walk in its present form.

B:  To restore half the Rose Walk (that part along the side of the Church) and grass the rest.

C:  To keep the memorials and mount them all on one plaque on the side of the Church.

Exploratory work done so far: All the existing memorials that can be read have been listed.  If you know of anyone whose ashes are buried along the Rose Walk and whose memorial is missing, please let Sue Burton know as soon as possible; Telephone: 01420 23675 email: burton883@btinternet.com

Temporary holding work:  The Ita Burton fund will sponsor a commercial gardener for one day to tidy up the Rose Walk – remove some of the rubble that has been left from the building work and remove any rose trees that are dead.

Next Step:  On Wednesday, 25th September at 8pm there will be a meeting of all volunteers only who are prepared to give a couple of hours or more a month in maintaining the Church garden.  We will listen to all the ideas and suggestions and the volunteers themselves will take on the future plans for the Church garden and decide amongst themselves who does what.  This seems to be the fairest way and only solution to safeguard the upkeep of the Church garden for the long term future.  Thank you u again to those who have volunteered so far.

Two Parishes Prayer Group for both Holy Angels and Holy Family Churches takes place once a month on a Tuesday. The next Prayer Group meetings are as follows:  10th September, 8th October and 5th November at 7.45pm in Parish Office at Holy Angels.

Holy Angels  Catholic Parish for Ash, Nr. Aldershot,  Ash Vale, Tongham & Normandy

Goodbye from Peter and Brenda Sawyer who are sadly leaving the Parish after many years of living in Ash and attending Holy Angels Church. We are grateful to Peter and Brenda for all they have done for the Parish in the running of the Gift Shop and also the creation of a stable for use at Christmas and a tomb at Easter which Peter very kindly made for us which will be used for many years to come. We also thank Peter for his work on the Parish Finance Committee.

Peter and Brenda are moving to Liphook to be nearer their daughters and grandchildren and they have asked us to say a Goodbye to all those friends and parishioners who they have not had a chance to say goodbye to.

The Repository will still be available as Judy D’Sa has very kindly undertaken to take on the responsibility of running this for which we are very grateful.

Peter and Brenda said that they may pop back from time to time to see us all and are sad to be leaving the many friends they have made and will miss our beautiful Church of Holy Angels.

Please remember Peter and Brenda in your prayers and we wish them every happiness in their new home.

Mother and Toddler Group – St. Mary’s Room on a Tuesday, from 10.30am until 12.00pm.

Message from Father David

Father Paul has been with us for only a short time, but during that time he has impressed us with his gentle spirituality and kindness.  The Bishop of Portsmouth heard about Father Paul through his care for the Nuns at St. Lucy’s, Medstead and wrote to his Bishop in Poland asking if he would lend Fr. Paul to the Diocese of Portsmouth for a special assignment on Guernsey for three years.  Father Paul, true to form, said he would be happy to do whatever the two Bishops decided.

This means that on the 1st September Father Paul will take up his new responsibilities on Guernsey and I am sure he will be greatly appreciated there.  Sadly this means that we at Ash and Farnham, Heath End are saying “Gooddbye and Good Luck” to Fr. Paul today.  I am sure, however, our goodbye will not be a permanent one and we shall see Father Paul from time to time.  At the 11am Mass today, by popular request, the two communities of Holy Angels and Holy Family will present a small token of our appreciation for the help he has given to both our Churches.  Please continue to remember Fr. Paul in your prayers.

God Bless Father Paul and you all,  Father David

Today’s Gospel

The Gospel is a great comfort to us, especially in times of sorrow and trouble.  But it’s also a great challenge.  It challenges us to shun darkness and to opt for the light, to be with Christ rather than against him.  Let us reflect on this to see where we stand – with Christ or against him. Let us ask the Lord to help us to be true to his Gospel.

Lord Jesus, you hear us when we cry to you for help. Lord, have mercy.
You strengthen us when we are weak and indecisive. Christ, have mercy.
You shed your light on us when we are in darkness. Lord, have mercy
