Second Collection

The weekend of the 8th and 9th August, Masses will taken by Fr John Kirwan from the APF- Mill Hill Fathers who form part of the Missio organization. Missio is the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission and is the only Catholic charity which supports 40% of the Universal Church. Missio empowers local people to form and sustain communities of faith and train future leaders so that the vital work of the Church in the world can take place.

Please give generously and if you have not already done so, consider taking a red box home for use. The local coordinators are Chris Mann in Holy Angels and Florence Graham at Holy Family.

Urgent Action – Assisted Suicide

On Friday 11th September the House of Commons will debate and vote on a Bill to legalise assisted suicide. This will put the most vulnerable people in our society at risk. Please contact your MP, urging them to attend the debate and vote against the Bill. You can send an e-mail to your MP via the Catholic Bishops’ Conference website (www.catholicnews.org.uk/assisted-suicide) or send a letter by post, a draft of which can be found at the back of the Church.

If you have personal experiences to share with them please do. MPs listen to their own constituents and will want to hear about your concerns.

Every person’s life is equally worthy of respect and protection. Even if someone loses sight of the dignity and value of their life (whether through pain, suffering or loneliness) they remain valuable in themselves and a member of the human family. They deserve care, support and sometimes medical treatment for depression, not assistance with suicide.

Information

Youth: Trip to Tanzania

As we go to press this week our young people should be returning from Tanzania and have had a wonderful time. There will shortly be some feedback from them, listen out in Masses for an announcement.

The golden giving page remains open at: http://www.goldengiving.com/f/helping-hands-for-tanzania

Baptism

Baptism forms are available at the back of both Churches. Parents will need to attend an evening Baptism course. Please return your completed Baptism Form to Deacon John Edwards so that you can be included in the next course which will take place in September.

Please note that we expect to be running a course for children of seven and older as part of the catechetical programs in the Autumn. See below.

First Holy Communion 2016

Application forms are now available at the back of each church for the First Holy Communion Programme 2015 -2016.

Your child must be in YEAR 3 or above to be considered for the programme and as a family you are requested to be registered with the parish. Location of classes alternates between Holy Angels, Ash and Holy Family, Heath End and all the children must attend all lessons (you will find the dates on the sheet attached to the application form). If you require further information please contact Amanda Watson (amandawatty@sky.com).

Confirmation Programme 2015/16

There are now sheets at the back of Church for you to fill in with information about confirmation for children who will be aged 13 and above by the 1st June 2016. We often run this confirmation course every other year, however if there are enough children wishing to be confirmed then we will run a course this year.

Please see the leaflet for further details.

Un-baptised children aged 7-14

There are now enquirers’ forms available at the back of Church for un-baptised children. These need to be filled in and returned before Sunday 6th September. Once we have the details of the numbers and ages of those requesting baptism we will be able to decide exactly how we will be doing the preparation. The expectation is that if the numbers are reasonably small they will probably be integrated into the existing First Holy Communion and Confirmation programmes. There will be a meeting after the 11am Mass on Sunday 6th September at 12.30pm for all those who had submitted forms and are interested. It is expected that any children of this age requesting baptism are regularly worshipping at Church.

RCIA and adult confirmation

If there are any adults (from older teenagers to nonagenarians!), who are either not baptised, or Christians from other churches who wish to become Catholic, or who are baptised Catholics yet to be confirmed, we will be holding an enquirers’ evening in September. Please let Father Robin or Deacon John know if you are interested.

Holy Angels

Prayer Group: takes place once a month on a Tuesday in St. Mary’s Room at Holy Angels Church at 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. The next prayer group will take place on Tuesday 8th September.

Coffee Group: There is a regular coffee group which meets after Mass on a Wednesday morning. All are welcome.

Cleaning Rota: If anyone would like to join the team please contact Michaela on 01252 693635

Safeguarding

A new diocesan safeguarding training programme has been developed by the diocese. The training is primarily aimed at those who volunteer with vulnerable groups but it is open to, and suitable for, any parishioner whether they volunteer with vulnerable groups or not.

A list of training sessions is available at the back of Church, together with a sign-up sheet if you are interested, or require training.

On Saturday 3rd October a safeguarding update and Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Bishop Richard will take place at the Friary in Crawley. Please email safeguarding@dabnet.org or speak to the parish office if you would like further details or to attend.
