First Holy Communion Programme 2014-2015

Confirmation 2015: If you will be 13 or over NEXT YEAR and would like to join the Confirmation Discovery Programme, please fill in a leaflet TODAY or speak to Fr. David, Deacon, John, Gloria or Hilary or call Rita at the Parish Office. The Programme planners need to know as soon as possible to get a date for Confirmation. i.e. by the 1st October, 2014.
Baptisms
If you wish to have your child baptised before Christmas you must hand your application in as soon as possible. This is to enable the arrangements for the Baptism course evening and other administration. It is recommended that you have you child Baptised as soon as possible preferably before 9 months old. Please speak with Deacon John or Fr. David.
MacMillan Coffee Morning – Friday, 26th September 10am – 12.00pm at Holy Angels Church in the Parish Room. Come and join us for coffee and cake – everyone is welcome.
Tour of Britain Cycle Race
On Saturday, 13th September the 7th Stage of the Tour of Britain Cycle Race starts in Camberley town centre at 10.00 a.m. The race continues through Mytchett, Ash Vale and to the Dover Arms and then to Normandy and up towards the Hogs Back and Elstead before continuing to Haslemere and then onto Brighton. Probably the only chance for most of us to see this race close-up but it will mean a great disruption that morning on local roads so better to make sure the shopping is done on Friday.

URGENT APPEAL! Collection of clothes for refugees in Northern Iraq
A couple from Farnham United Reformed Church have many friends and family in the area of Northern Iraq affected by the ISIS insurgency, and are arranging to send clothes for refugees in need. They have negotiated for clothes to be transported at the expense of the Kurdish Regional Government, and they need them by Friday 12th September, for packing and despatch a couple of days later.
Deacon John has kindly offered to collect any items which are left before next Wednesday at either Holy Angels or Holy Family and he will deliver. Alternatively, they can be left at the church or delivered directly to 59 Upper Way, GU9 8RL. Children’s clothes are especially needed, but adult clothes are welcome too. Winter or summer clothes will be equally welcome, but their seasons are all warmer than the UK.
Any clothes are welcome, but especially Coats,Trousers,Shoes,T-shirts, Socks, Gloves, Hats and Stationery are also needed. Thank you (Michael Hopkins Minister)
Next year is the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. Bishop Kieran has extended an invitation for the Diocesan family to gather together in the Amex Stadium Brighton on Sunday 5th July 2015 from 10:00 am with a celebration mass at 3:00 pm. Hopefully there will be sufficient interest for us to run a coach or two from our combined parish. Speakers and Guests include: Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor; Former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams; Leading Dominican Fr. Meanwhile the preparations continue. The autumn/Advent there will be a further study programme on Church (communion). This will use the Vatican II document Lumen Gentium as its study platform. Prayer Group: takes place once a month on a Tuesday at Holy Angels Church in the Parish Office: 7.45pm for an 8.00pm start. Dates are: 9th Sept. 7th Oct. and 4th November.
Holy Family
Children’s Liturgy on Sunday – The children’s liturgy at Holy Family will resume TODAY and will take place most Sundays, apart from those either side of half-term and when there is a First Holy Communion Mass at Holy Family, until the 21st December inclusive.
Harvest Soup and Cheese Lunch – 7th November
Holy Family J&P team are holding a Harvest soup & cheese lunch in aid of Disability Africa, on Friday 7th November (time yet to be confirmed). Sue Haworth-Edwards, a Trustee of the above charity and member of J&P team will be giving a short talk about the charity with literature available to view.
TODAY’S GOSPEL
We hear about the duty of a Christian to correct an erring brother or sister. But there is a proper way of doing it (Matthew 18: 15-20)
The Gospel raises a very practical issue: how to act when someone close to you is treating you badly?. Obviously these kind of problems occurred even in the first Christian community. Today’s Gospel gives us a way of tackling a problem like this. First of all, let us take a look at the usual way the injured party goes about solving the problem.
We begin by keeping it to ourselves. We pretend that everything is normal. Meanwhile we brood over the injury. This tends to magnify it. We become sullen and sour and depressed, and may cut the offender off as a kind of revenge.
Eventually, unable to keep it to ourselves, we begin to tell others about it, friends, neighbours, relatives. We bring them in, not as advisers, but as people who will corroborate our reading of the situation and who will sympathise with us. The last person to hear about the hurt is often the person who is causing it.
Today’s Gospel shows that there is another approach. We should confront the person who is causing the hurt. We have a duty to do so. Failure to do so shows a lack of love for the person. Confrontation takes courage and involves risk. But sometimes a little honest talking may clear the air. The person may not be aware of the extent of the hurt he is causing. He may see the light at once and you have won him over.
The confrontation should not be done in anger or annoyance. Nor should it be done out of a desire to get even. It must be done out of concern for him too, not just out of a desire to appease one’s own wounded pride. Also, before we do it, we should examine our own conscience to see if maybe we are not partly to blame. If he refuses to see the light we should seek advise. We should get one or two wise people and enlist their help to face him. The aim of the exercise is not to score points but to help him to amend his way and be reconciled with him.
