Our Youth Group have invited Fiona Hendy to talk to us on Saturday 10th May after evening Mass at Holy Angels 6.30pm for 7pm start. Please note this talk is not just for the young – come along and be inspired.  We will provide drinks and nibbles prior to the talk starting at 6.30pm.   We would like to charge a nominal £5 for a ticket BUT any small donation will be very helpful.  All monies raised will go to the orphanage and the work still to be done.

Come and hear how Fiona has set up an orphanage in Tanzania and future plans for the orphanage along with staff and volunteers.  Fiona is developing a video on her return to the UK so we should be able to see firsthand, via the video, the fruit of her labours.

Please do come along and support our Youth’s invitation – I promise you will not be disappointed by this lovely lady.  Any questions please contact Gloria Benson: email: Gloria.benson@chyp.com or Hilary Gray: moboffive@hotmail.com

Father David’s Message

This week has been a thought challenging week for the Catholic Community and for many others.  A week where we have seen kindness and dedication rewarded with violence and death.

Ann Maguire had won the hearts and minds of hundreds of young people who spent part of their formative years at Corpus ChristiCatholicCollege.  Her life had been dedicated to helping young people grow up to enjoy the world as responsible adults – a vocation which she took very seriously and often worked extra hours unpaid.  She was from what we hear a woman of faith who would only a week before have taken part n the Liturgy of Holy Week and Easter.  A liturgy where we see a good holy and dedicated Christ cruelly treated because of his calling and vocation.  Ann also would have shared in the celebration which reminds us that God determines the ultimate end and with his Son it was the Resurrection and that those who believe in Christ will share in his Resurrection.  Ann’s soul is now in the loving care of God and what has happened to her has made many hundreds if not thousands of her students and others think about life and our relationship with God.  For many of her students past and present their natural response has been to turn to God in Prayer – perhaps the most rewarding response Ann could ever wish for.

In these coming days we must not forget to pray for the students and staff (past and present) of Corpus ChristiCatholicCollege.  We also remember Ann’s family and relations as well as the family and relations of the young 15 year old student whose mind turned to violence during what everyone thought would be just a normal lesson in a normal day.

What has happened may for some have been a wake up call to recognise how important really good teachers are to us and to our community and the importance of helping young people to discover God and how to pray.

Eternal rest grant unto Ann, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her, may she rest in peace. Amen

The Mass next Sunday, 11th May will be offered in thanksgiving for the Life of Ann Maguire and to pray for teachers in all our schools.

A Reflection

All through life’s day, you walk with us, Lord.
But often we don’t recognise you, for we are blinded by work and worry, doubt, confusion and fear, and so you remain a stranger to us.
Before the day’s end we will ask many questions, experience many sorrows and disappointments.
And then, suddenly, whether we are young, middle-aged, or old, we will find that night is approaching.
In that moment we pray, that, like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, our eyes will be opened, and that we will recognise you.
And you will not vanish from our sight, but stay with us to guide us to the Father’s house.

Thank you

I thank you for your very kind and generous Easter Offerings which will be a great help with the car and holiday fund – thank you all very much.

A special word of thanks to those at Holy Angels and Holy Family who arranged the flowers for Easter.  Many of our parishioners and visitors commented on how beautiful both Churches looked.

Thanks also to the Sacristans, the Readers, the Church Cleaners.  Those who help with the Church gardens, the Servers and the Musicians – you all helped to make Easter very special.  Thank you so much.

God Bless you all      Father David
