A Day for Women

‘Surviving the Impossible’ led by Jennifer Reese-Larcombe on Saturday, 4^th May from 10am until 3.30pm. At Nutbourne House, Farm Lane, Nutbourne, Chichester, PO18 8SD. (see notice board for information)

“I will be going to this event and wondered whether anyone would like to join me – I can take 3 people in my car and would love to see a number of us from the parish attending.  I have been to several days at the BibleSchool and have always enjoyed the day.(Gloria Benson)

Donation of Easter Eggs

Thank you to all those of you who very kindly donated Easter Eggs for Step by Step.  We had 40 Easter Eggs donated and received a ‘Thank you’  (below) from Gill Butler, the Community Fundraiser for Step by Step who was very grateful as they did not receive many donations this year.

Baptisms

Please make an appointment to see the Priest/Deacon to discuss what you need to do to prepare for your child’s baptism. If you are new to the Parish, please complete pink Registration Form  and make yourself known to Father David or Deacon John after Mass.

Once you have met with Father David or Deacon John You will be asked to attend a Baptism Class which is one evening and only takes up an hour or so of your time.  Also Father David asks that parents obtain the booklet entitled, ‘Your Baby’s Baptism’ available on line from Redemptorist Publications, Shawton, Alton, Hants. Holy FamilyC hurch Catholic Parish Farnham, Hale, Weybourne & Badshot Lea

Mother and Toddler Group – Our Mother and Toddler Group meet every Thursday morning from 9.30am until 11.30am in the Church Hall.  Why not join us and have a chat over a cup of coffee whilst your children enjoy some playtime with other young children.

 

Mother and Toddler Group – We would love to see more young Mums at our Mother and Toddler Group who meet in St. Mary’s Room on a Tuesday, from 10.30am until 12.00pm.  Unfortunately many of our Mums have had to return to work after their maternity leave, which is sad as the time they spent together was very much enjoyed and gave them an hour or so of respite, chatting with other young Mums whilst their babies and toddlers played quite happily.

 

Thank you to all those who helped make Easter 2013 so special

Thank you –  to everyone who helped to make Easter at both Holy Angels and Holy Family so special this year.  For the flower ladies who helped to bring the Spring into our Churches, (even though outside it would appear that Spring had still not yet arrived!).   For those who erected the tombs in front of the altar, the many church cleaners who helped to make our two Churches look so clean and fresh for our Easter celebrations, to the people who helped with the music, the altar servers and welcomers and the Children’s Liturgy Group. 

Many parishioners have asked me to express their thanks to both Father David and Deacon John for helping to make Easter so extra special this year, particularly during Lent and the lead up to Easter.  Many, including myself, experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts, especially through the beautiful Stations which Father himself had simplified to help us to relate to the sufferings which Christ himself went through on his journey to the Cross. I think many of us were able to identify with at least one of the Stations, if not more, as being struggles we experience in our own lives as we journey on through this life.  Many having our own personal crosses to bear but with Christ’s help we are able to bear them and overcome as he did. A visit from a Friend

Yesterday I had a visit from a friend someone I had not seen for many months. This very special lady is a volunteer for JRS UK. The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an International organisation who offer help and support to the many refugees whose plight was to escape from a very dangerous situation in their own country. Many had been caught up in war, escaping from their dreadful situation was their last and only hope. JRS offer friendship and a chat over a hot cup of tea and biscuit this simple act of kindness means so much, just having somewhere to go a few days a week is of tremendous comfort to these people. It could be you or I.

Sadly what struck me whilst chatting with my friend, was we and I include myself, never really think about the human being who is seeking Asylum in our country.  Who are they, what life have they had to leave behind, what did they do for a job before the terror of war struck their homeland?  I have been guilty at times, particularly given our present economic climate with the many lack of jobs and people out of work in our own country, of complaining about the number of people from other countries coming here and receiving benefits.

Well as my friend mentioned to me, many of these people held very responsible jobs in their own country. The list would be too long to mention.  They are not all as perhaps most of us seem to think, the down and outs who do not work for a living and just want an easier life in the UK.  They come here and to other countries too, because they have no choice and leaving makes them very tired, physically and mentally.

Seeking asylum can be like a descent into chaos.  From the heartbreak of leaving home and leaving behind loved ones, through an often life-or-death voyage, to official and public hostility in the UK, it can be an experience of confusion, risk and pain. They come bereft of everything they once had. 

I have not been asked to mention JRS to you and am not advertising for money, but felt that to mention the plight of Refugees in our world today would perhaps touch some of you as it did me.

My friend was struck by the experience of refugees their lack of freedom and liberty, for this has been taken away from them.  Yet their faith in God was very apparent whilst they waited – many waiting for years for their cases to be determined, relying solely in the hope that God gives. 

“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me”. (Mt. 25: 34-35)
