Christmas Lunch: I have been asked to place a very big vote of thanks to the ladies who organized last Wednesday’s Christmas Lunch. The occasion was a great success and the food was superb. No wonder people here saying it would be good to have a Christmas Lunch every week!!

Father David’s News
Festival of Remembrance Carol Service: 5.30pm on Saturday, 22nd December. This will be an ecumenical service and we will be joined by Revd. Alison Craven of St. Marks Anglican Church,Normandy. Would those who are regular Holy Angels parishioners be ambassadors for Holy Angels and ensure that our visitors are looked after and get a good welcome? Thank you.
Midnight Mass: As Midnight Mass is shared jointly between Holy Angels and Holy Family it is only right that people from both churches get a chance to take an active part in the Mass. It is, therefore, very important that we have a combined Choir or Singers practice. Alternative date suggested is Tuesday, 18th Dec at 8pm at Holy Angels.
Christmas Offering
Our Priest receives no wages or salary from the parish. The Christmas and Easter Offering help towards his holidays and personal expenses. For those who do not have offertory envelopes, Christmas Offering envelopes are on the table near the church door. Thank you for your generosity.
If you like me have been disappointed at the declining choice of Christmas cards reflecting the real meaning of Christmas and still have cards to send, there are some lovely post cards (20p each) of an icon of the Holy Family available at Church today. These can be slipped or glued into a Christmas Card and they are so attractive the people you send them to may decide to keep them. There are also some free Christmas Greetings inserts that you may like to include in your cards.
This Sunday, Rose or Pink are worn by the Priest to remind us that although Advent is a time of prayer and preparation for Christmas, we can begin to get excited as the birth of Christ is now within our vision.
When we light the 3rd Rose Advent Candle this Sunday we recall the visit of Mary to her cousin, Elizabeth, “Passing on the News of the coming birth of Christ”. On this Sunday the stable in front of the Altar reminds us thatBethlehem was the centre and family home town ofJoseph and so the right place for the birth of Jesus. The empty stable and the Candle remind us on this Sunday to pray for our extended family, our grandparents, cousins, Aunts and Uncles that they too may hear the good news of the coming birth of Jesus.
God Bless you all Father David.

The tradition of decorating a Fir Tree to celebrate the birth of Christ is attributed to St. Boniface (675-755) a british missionary monk from Devon who is said to have cut down a ‘pagan oak’ and replaced it with a Fir Tree decorated with a star and lights as a symbol (like the Easter Candle) of Christ as the Light of the world and the Tree of Life.
On the last Sunday of Advent at the end of Mass in both our churches the names of those remembered with Stars on our parish Christmas Trees will be read out and a member of our youth group will be invited to turn the Tree lights on.
